I have created this cross stitch pattern based on a sampler embroidered by eight-year-old Rosalind Kate Colles in 1884.
In the new pattern I have made the following corrections: Added the missing stitches in the letters M, O, and Q.

The quote ”Joyful to meet, willing to part, convinced we oft are one in heart” is a phrase from a hymn written by John Wesley (1703-1791). The full text is available in the book ’A collection of hymns, for the use of the people called Methodists’ (Hymn 533).

Nothing more is known about who Rosalind Kate Colles was, but the sampler is embroidered on stramalj (Berlin wool work canvas) with wool yarn.
The sampler came to the Nordiska Museum in 1986 and was previously owned by Elvira Chambert, who was a textile craft teacher. It is possible that the sampler was used in her teaching.

An image of the textile is available online via the Nordiska museet's database, with reference number NM.0318462.
