About Överenhörna and the origin of the pattern
The pattern with eight-petalled roses and birds is a reproduction of one of Sweden’s oldest surviving cross-stitch embroideries, an embroidered cloth believed to date from the sixteenth century. The textile belonged to Överenhörna Church, located southwest of Stockholm. It was donated to the Swedish History Museum in 1875.
Den ursprungliga duken var 189 cm lång och 62 cm bred och broderades med ullgarn på linnetyg. Stygnen som användes var korsstygn och tvistsöm.
When creating this pattern from a photograph, I was unable to determine which areas were worked in cross stitch and which were worked in the long-armed stitch. For the sake of simplicity, I have used full cross stitches only.
